Here is a cool, old, paper tape reader. It appears to be purely mechanical in operation.

Reader for 1 tape , perfect for your old minicomputer or early microcomputer. Looks like it was made for the Convair division of General Dynamics Corp, by Commercial Controls. I'm guessing this is mid-1960's stuff. Friden (think Flexowriter), and this looks very much like a Friden reader so might be a. Much beefier than a Teletype reader.
